Saab Key Programming

Saab cars manufactured since 1994 have an immobilizer system that is based on codes for keys. A new transponder is required in order to enable the addition of an extra key, and special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

It can be costly. Always keep a spare set of keys at hand.

Transponder key

The transponder keys are keys equipped with an electronic chip. It transmits a signal to the car when it is inserted into the ignition. The car will then check the signal to see whether it is the same as the one on the key. If the signals are in sync the car will then open and start. This is a great way to prevent car theft and keep your vehicle secure from thieves.

Transponder keys are a favored feature in automobiles, but you should be aware they are not as secure as traditional keys made of metal. The metal part of the traditional key is easily cut and copied, whereas a transponder has an electronic chip that guards it. The tools plug into OBD ports and guide the customer through each step, making the process easier than replacing the vehicle's computer.

Jumpstarting the battery

A lot of people keep an assortment of tools in their trunks to jump-start their car in an emergency, but it might not be a good idea for newer cars. These vehicles are equipped with many computers and digital devices which communicate with each other. A voltage spike when the battery is connected another one could cause damage to the parts making your car inoperable.

Start the working vehicle and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before connecting the cables to the non-working one. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".)
