Mitsubishi-Motors-New.pngHow to Replace an audi q3 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the most effective way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The Car key replacement audi will start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter replacement key for audi your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find especially when they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues with your vehicle. It's a vital component of your Audi's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. When this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common part that is found across the audi replacement key cost uk 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.1200px-Vauxhall_logo_2019.svg_.png
