3 Wheeler Buggies

A tri-wheeled stroller is ideal for off-road terrain and offers an easy ride for babies. Stability

A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is why it's a good choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat unit). They're also ideal for jogging because they have built in suspension and are easy to move up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they are quite heavy to push.

It's also simple to get up and down kerbs and can fit into small car boot. It can be used as a stroller along with an infant carrycot or toddlers.

Fabric sling seats are tucked inside the frame of the buggie instead of on top of it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is simpler to push, and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you'll need to do that as a brand new parent!).

Seating

A fabric sling seat is also available. It is placed snugly within the frame rather than over the top of an open-back seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat dealt with challenges.

This type of double buggy 3 wheels comes with a large basket and other useful features, such as an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights which can be put in front of the occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

It's worth looking for an SUV with three wheels that can fit two (or even 3!) This is the best option for your future and will save you money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most popular. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy and later converted into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are made to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are commonly found on pushchairs, such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an exceptional ride for my toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to tackle kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and require air pressure regularly topped up. These tyres are prone to punctures, which is why it is recommended to always carry a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres but they're still as sturdy. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and supple feel. They also glide well on even and tied surfaces.

If you run your hand over the tyres you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's sliding, then it is a PU. You can also determine whether your buggy comes with PU tyres, by sliding them on flat, clean surfaces. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable because the foam loses its springy nature. The tyres can also be noisy due to the fact that they create lots of noise when you turn or drive around the town.
