Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight places.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are prone, however to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Recent figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggy which was a symbol of the decade of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look stylish and easy to push.

The basic rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with rough ground and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to move and more stable when walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn as well as a 3 wheel buggy for sale year old and found that it was able to handle cobbles, grass, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size and shape. It is important for the seat to be big enough for your child to feel comfortable and allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for an adult facing one.

Larger wheels will give your buggy greater stability when driving over rough terrain. This is perfect for off-road buggies. In addition, they help you maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This can also help when you crash into the roots of a tree or stray kerb as the front wheel can be lifted up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres that allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures and you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

Some of our favourite 3 wheel stroller-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps very effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and may struggle to fit into narrow spaces. This can be a problem if you use it for jogging or you need to get through narrow doorways while traveling. Most models come with compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to manoeuvre

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with children. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels turn at a whim and are really easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground, with the swivel front wheel particularly useful. I was also impressed by how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only drawback of this incredible mobility is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean it has to be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to be aware of when you live in a urban area. If this is an issue then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.
