How to Replace an audi car key cover G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are several pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero Ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either cost of audi key replacement these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is going bad and should be replaced. They're cheap and easy to find particularly in the case of a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part would be a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous problems in your car. It's an essential component of your audi key replacement near me's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car key replacement audi's crankshaft is turning. When this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

happy-african-american-businessman-holding-car-key-2022-12-16-16-36-17-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the replacement audi a4 key 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
