Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The most effective way to improve your equipment in Path of Exile is through upgrading your items. This lets you improve it without having to depend on costly trades or drops. This article will teach you how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment give an additional bonus to the item's stats. This bonus scales according to the rarity and strength of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components can make your weapons and armour better. They can be found through destroying enemies, buying them from karma sellers or finding them in the form of item upgrader-spheres. You can also get them from equipment that contains the components or through high-end salvage kits like Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components are not destroyed when they are removed from an item upgrader mod.

Upgrade components are primarily used to upgrade an item, however, they can also be used for other reasons. They can be stacked to increase the quality of an item that can be upgraded or they can be used to boost the experience gained when upgrading an existing weapon or piece of gear. They can be forged for additional bonuses. For instance, a specially designed glyph will increase the chance of upgrading its target, while the boost upgrade can enhance the defense or attack attribute of a weapon or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will show the upgrade components to which the item can be updated. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either case, an item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components have been collected.

Each component has a distinct experience multiplier, which affects how much more experience an item will gain when it is upgraded by that component. For instance, organic components have a an experience multiplier that is higher than mechanical ones. It is recommended to upgrade the organic components first, until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment then switch to mechanical upgrades.

In addition to the experience multiplier, each item also has a maximum number of upgrades that it can receive. The number of upgrades are determined by the upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade for the upgradeable item. The most powerful upgrade is a weapon with tier 10. However, the most common upgrades for weapons are the tier 6 weapon and an armor upgrade of tier 5.

Sets

A set is a collection of items which all have the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at least once. The upgrade will increase the amount of bonuses you can expect to receive. When you first upgrade an item, its primary stat will be +1. After subsequent upgrades the primary stats will be boosted a bit more (for example, +1 to 12+/13+/14+) Each time you upgrade the item it will have one of its additional stats is boosted randomly.

Upgrades can also increase the damage base of a weapon. This could be crucial for certain types of builds. Weapons cannot be upgraded for a higher maximum defence roll than their base.
