WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for the latter due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrade's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item upgrades level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrade upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item Level upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
