Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your adhd titration waiting list symptoms will be conducted with an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or by phone). Your doctor will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks. It requires adjusting your child's dosage slowly until the right balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration process and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You must attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to do an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and choose the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose and any side effects that you may be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be suffering from. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, and it's vital to assess your family history to determine if you're at chance of developing this disorder.

It is important that you are honest and open with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they receive will be used to determine if your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step, since the wrong diagnosis can result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange a follow-up appointment with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. If you want to start treatment right away, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

If you aren't sure what your preference is We suggest you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Make sure that your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them after you leave the clinic for medication prescription.

Medication

The medication process is an essential element of the process for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. Finding an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

One way to get around this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose one that provides an assessment and titration service. This can cut down on wait time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are recommended, your physician will evaluate your condition to determine if you need medication titration. You will be asked to fill in forms that are different for each provider, but the most important ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will allow your doctor to determine if there are factors that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medication, even when they've been prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medications. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into consideration any existing conditions you have. The titration can be long and may require multiple appointments before the dose becomes stable.

Depending on the kind of medication you're taking, follow up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure that you are stable with the medication, record any side effects that you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review as well as a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

For some, it may be that they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. If, however, they require further discussion about their titration for adhd and treatment plans, it is possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that performed their initial assessment. In this case the titration is included in the consultation fee. The medication will then be given via an individual prescription. This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
