Three Wheeled Buggies

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a best 3 wheel stroller year old and found it coped well with cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to think about is the size of the seat and shape. You'll want it to be large enough for your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which lets your child face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, while others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with the speed at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit trees or a kerb. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can handle many different terrains and are more flexible than four wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube, and pump on hand.

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is a problem if you're using it as a jogger or to be able to get through doorways that are narrow when you're out and about. The majority of models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeler can be easier to maneuver with children. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels spin on a dime and are extremely easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles or bumpy pavements, as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain and the swivel front wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by how well it dealt with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or on uneven ground."

The only drawback of this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces - something to be aware of especially if you live in a city area. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better choice for you.
